It is a common practice in Brussels to leave all kind of objects on sidewalks for other people to pick up and reuse. Intrigued by this open-air exchange, in 2022 I started assembling a collection of miscellaneous objects found on various streets, which now counts over 3000 objects. Following this transfer of material goods, my intention was to explore a tacit discourse and exchange of memories between people who never met.
The unpredictable and varied content of this re-enacted family photo album, made of discarded objects found on streets in Brussels, is a metaphor of visual remembrance, whereby remembering only the selected contents from the past, we create the frames of interpretation and meanings for the present.
